This is the Perfect Airport and Flight Outfit

Source: Pinterest

The perfect airport and flight outfit is one that is equal parts chic and comfy, refined, and relaxed. As a frequent traveler, these are my luxe leisurewear essentials.

I'm averaging a minimum of a dozen international trips per year, mostly for work, so I consider traveling in style to be essential. I'm also at a stage in life where I refuse to be uncomfortable for anyone or anything, so I put together a luxe leisure uniform that is now my go-to.

I'm often with colleagues when I travel, frequently in and out of different climates, and often have no time to change between landings and activities. So I needed an outfit formula that could accommodate many different scenarios. Most importantly, it needed to be suitable for lying down and sleeping en flight.

These are a lot of requirements, so I curated a collection of pieces that make up the perfect combination and togther can do it all. The core of this formula are superior quality cashmere sweaters and trousers, in the same or similar neutral color, so they make a sophisticated tonal knit set.

Oversized Cashmere Sweater

I have many cashmere sweaters in different styles, weights, and colors, but love to travel with an oversized midweight option in neutral that matches my trousers. You can't help but look sophisticated when wearing cashmere, but it's a fabric that's also comfortable and versatile in different temperatures. I get my cashmere from minimalist labels like Almada Label, Toteme, Celine, and COS.

Relaxed Cashmere Trousers

I recommend a few pairs of cashmere trousers in lightweight and light neutrals for spring and summer, and midweight and dark neutrals for fall and winter. Opt for a wide legged but structured silhouette, so they look polished but feel relaxed. Because they will experience a lot of wear, don't skimp on quality. Almada Label and St. Agni have great options.

Oversized Structured Tee

Layering is critical when traveling, especially given the fluctuating temperatures inside airports and airplanes. I always wear a loose but tailored white t-shirt under my cashmere sweater. If needed, I can take the sweater off and wear it over my shoulders and the high-quality tee will look just as polished. I don't bother paying a lot for t-shirts because they have to be replaced often, so I get them from COS.

Casual Leather Sneakers

Instead of dad sneakers (which I love), I prefer to travel in a slim pair of white or neutral sneakers such as the Adidas Stan Smiths. Sneakers like this go with everything and will likely work with other outfits. More importantly, it keeps your travelwear looking a bit more casual chic than sporty. Bonus tip is to carry a pair of white compression socks for the flight (research this and thank me later).

Wool Neutral Cape

Because I often move between different climates, when I expect cold weather I bring the beautiful Burberry wool cape with leather trim that I've had for years. It's weighty and structured, but light enough to roll up and fit in my travel bag.

This cape is suitable for low temperatures, especially when I don't foresee having to be outside for a long period of time. I love that it keeps me from having to carry a coat unless absolutely necessary. It also double duties as a blanket for the flight.

Large Leather Travel Bag

I have an extra large Fendi Peekaboo bag in a gorgeous brown leather with gold hardware, that is both sleek and sturdy. I use a custom insert to organize all work and travel essentials including my laptop. It's the most perfect setup.

Sturdy Stylish Luggage

All of my luggage is from Rimowa, and I'm a loyal fan of this brand. The bags I use the most are the Classic or Essential Cabin, since 90% of the time I do not check. Whatever brand you're fond of, I recommend choosing a color and texture that suits the aesthetic of your go-to airport formula. That way your entire look is chic and cohesive.

Bonus Travel Style Tip

There is some minimal maintenance required to keep all of these pieces looking sleek:

  • You need a travel steamer for fresh and wrinkle free fabrics in between wearing and dry cleanings.

  • Use a leather cleaner, moisturizer, and protector, so your sneakers and bags always look like new.

  • Keep a cashmere comb and lint remover on hand so your knits aren't piling and accumulating debris.
